Week 6....Half Way There!

Week 6 was PAINT.

I'm not a big fan of painting but I guess I can when I need to.  I found a few little pieces of glass from broken frames and decided to use one of those.

I know Marion would be proud!  I used acrylic paints that I've had forever.

Can use any surface you choose. For example: wood, canvas, walls, glass.

• Must be Botanical Painting (botanical such as flowers, leaves, trees, mushrooms, herbs)
• Must be a complete project
• Must be your own original work
• The botanical portion needs to be the main focus of the painting. Not just a border or a flower accent.
• We need to be able to see the botanical image in your finished project.
• You must sign your piece.
• Can use whatever colors you choose but must include the color YELLOW Paint somewhere on the project can be your signature if need be

Wonder what next week will be....we have widdled down to about 15 people left.

Week 5

Yarn or Thread!

Can be crocheting, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, sewing, knitting, embroidery, latch hook, weaving, and macramé
• Must be a project that can be done within the time limit. Both moderators are skilled in these.
• Must have both of these colors in project:
Coca Cola or Cherry Red
Black or White

After a few go rounds with one of the Moderators..I don't think she likes me....don't know why but I really have that feeling.  I simply said that the challenge said that it must have the colors in it but didn't say it was limited to those colors.  (By the way I did see others use other colors....
oh well....)

I decided to try to Arm Knit!!!

I like it but really would have rather used 'chunky' yarn!  Just couldn't find any that they would approve.

It was fun anyway and I will be making some of these with chunky yarn and in the colors I want!  I'm thinking great quick gifts.  It isn't hard once you get the hang of it.

Week 4

For this week for the 12 Challenges of Crafting at Scrapbook Friends and More Crafts on Facebook it was a little more up my alley!

Card making!  BUT not just any cards....The techniques were not easy!  I won't list them all but there was a choice of 10 different techniques.

You must make 3 cards as listed below:
A Birthday Card
A Thinking of you Card
A Holiday Card (your choice of holiday)
Must use one of the following technique on the cards such as (each card must use a different technique)

Must have a stamped or printed sentiment on the inside
Must be obvious what the theme of the cards are
Must list which technique they used for each card
Must show all the components of your cards
Must post picture of the front of the cards and the inside of the cards
Embellish as desired

The first I did was the shaker card.

The second was a double slider....

And the last was a tri-shutter card.

They all were surprisingly not as hard as I thought they would be!

Week 3....

For week 3 the challenge was:

• Must be Animals, Insects or Fish Themed
• Must be at least 3 inches (must take picture with ruler so we can see what it measures, if picture is posted without ruler it will not be eligible
• Must tell what type of clay used
• Project must primarily made of clay
• Show project with ruler
• You can embellish your project with paint, beads or whatever you desire
• Be sure you project is cohesive and finished if is does not look cohesive and finished it will not be eligible to continue
• Do not just roll out a line of clay and call it a worm or snake that will not meet the requirement if you choose to make a worm/snake there should be details so that when we see it we instantly know it is a worm or snake

I actually made two for this one too....the first one was rejected (then she changed her mind but I had already removed it...she said it looked 'too cartoonish' although she realized that was not in the rules I guess....)

Here is the one they rejected....

But luckily I had a back up that I actually did first....very simple and I'm thinking I can use it on a scrapbook layout.

I will paint it first though....I've had that clay forever so it was good to actually use it!

Week Two

For week two of the 12 Challenges of Crafting on Scrapbook Friends and More Crafts was to use a 'household' item and alter it.

• Must be a holiday ornament (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah)
• Needs to be a household item altered from its original state
• Must have holiday themed ribbon

So....I used toothpicks!  Here is what I came up with.  I will be making more of them and I hope to master them a bit better.  I used glue with this one but will be using HOT glue in the future.

And I was ready with a back up just in case here is what I made with a spool!

More to come for week's 3-6!

I decided to enter a 12 week challenge on Facebook called 12 Challenges of Crafting sponsored by Scrapbook Friends & More Crafts.  The first week was Papercrafting but it could NOT be a layout or card.  It also had to be inspired by a 50's song and include teal or turquoise, grey and red.

Here is my project:

A 'honeycomb' ornament after the 1954 song, "Honeycomb" by Bob Merrill in 1954, Also recorded by Jimmy Rodgers and charted at Billboard Top 100 in 1957. As you can see in the following pictures I used a grey button and grey thread in case the newsprint was not grey! And the ribbon truly is turquoise, also the bottom has a turquoise button! We are doing a vintage tree this year so several of these will be made and added to my tree!!!

I really like how it turned out for only a second attempt...of course now that I did that one I found a few other ways to make them so I will be trying those.  Will be using these on my tree!

Thanks for looking! Have a great week!

It Has Been a While

Happy Sunday!

I think I accomplished something I wanted to do for a LONG time and that is to make a header for my blog!  Check it out!  I did that all by my self....well...I used Pic Monkey photo editor to help.  I really had fun and will be using that photo editing often for my photos.  Super simple and straight forward.

THEN I actually did a layout that is for a challenge!  From the blog called Scrap Our Stash, their September challenge, Back to School.  I haven't done something like this in a long time.  I sure hope I remember how to do all the linking and what not.  Anyway, the challenge was to use:

(1) or more items from list A:
Lined or ruled paper (striped paper does not count)
Chalkboard paper
Dictionary paper or a page from a book

(3) or more items from list B:
File Folder
Library Pocket and/or card
Pencil or pen
Paper Clip
Chalkboard embellishment

Here is my layout:

Obviously from the (1) I used the lined paper, then from (2) I used the ruler, alphas and then I had these little chalkboards that I wrote the word 'play' on.

My wonderful hubby loves to play cars with our sweet grandson, Ian.  And he always says 'Pop pop, play caaaarrrs' (wish you could hear how he says it!).  Hubby teaches him the true play of imagination....along with sound effects (tink tink tink, bang bang bang when they are fixing the cars and they love to pretend they are going to WalMart in Mommie's car to get bug juice!  The remote is WalMart and he has a little white car that is like mommies....they have tunnels made from cut out plastic jars and everything!  Of course I had to document this memory!

Thanks for looking and have a great Sunday.

Time to Fire this Up Again!

Hello friends...or strangers....or anyone who might stumble across this page.

It has been a while, a long not going to babble about why, who or when but it is simply time to fire this up again!

How about a few pages I've done this year....yea...that is where I'll start!

That is all for now!

I'm on this week with the challenge at Scrapbook Heaven .
Make sure you check out ALL the challenges and did you know that each month there is a PRIZE for one of the submitted challenges???  Your chances are GREAT so come join us!

It is not a hard one but it is different!  I've noticed a few layouts with edges that are border punched but NOT all the way around!  Just a little here and a little I thought I'd give it a try.  Here is what I came up with.

It is a little hard to tell that there is nothing behind the punch (looks like white cardstock) but there isn't!  I love how it looks in real life!  Even when my hubby saw it he commented on how he loved the little bits punched out!  So, I DARE you, challenge you or just ask if that is how you see it to give it a try!  I think you will like it!

By the way, this layout is my oldest son and his sweet wife while they were on a little vaca this year!  I think it is so neat how my older kids are now asking, bringing and requesting that I do layouts for them!  I guess it is one of the perks from this awesome hobby!  AND one more thing, I used the May Elite kit to create this one!  I'll be sharing a few more layouts in the next few days from this awesome kit!  It rocks!  Don't wait because they will NOT last!

And here are a few MORE layouts with the May Elite Kit....just to show you how fun it is1  I've created 4 layouts and there is enough left that I could EASILY create 4 more!

So much fun creating with this kit!  Check out the petite kit while you are there!  I'll share some creations with that one in the next few days!

A Little Challenge Work

Before I share two layouts created for Scrapbook Heaven's Monthly Challenges...

You know how you get all excited about yard sales especially when there are not two, not three but FOUR NEIGHBORHOOD sales right nears you AND a church sale!! (well, maybe you don't but we do) Let me just say that the anticipation isn't always worth it! Sigh...

Got up early to hit them all only to find out that not only were they a bit disappointing (two tables does not constitute a yard sale to me! That is a closet sale! Hahaha!) but also the pickets were out in full force. Plus Craig's List listings means that when there used to be 40/50 folks out because they heard about them to 250 plus people!! Pickings were thin and we even came home by 10:30! Sigh...

Now, I did have some fun scrapping. I complete Michelle's AND Vero's challenges! I'm up this Wednesday to post mine and that is what I'm going to work on today!!

Here they are, Vero shared a sketch and colors!

And Michelle's was to do a layout without pics! I did totally lift this layout from one I saw on that veggie site!

You guys have a super Sunday!

Easter Sunday was a fun day!

We decided to do something a little different this year.

We went to the 6:30 am service! And we made it WITH a 3 month old as they were singing the first song!! How good is that!

That was the beginning of a beautiful day. Adison was serving at church so quickly between services we snuck him out to take a few quick pictures. That is a tradition but I will say taking them behind the gym at church does not make good pictures! Oh well, I still have them even if they aren't perfect.

The rest of us headed home to take the 'traditional' pictures. Yea! Then we changed clothes and loaded up for a new fun twist for breakfast!

Hubby has been wanting a charcoal grill (of course I've wanted one for years but isn't that how it goes?). So we decided to cook breakfast on the grill at our Reservoir area!

It was a beautiful morning, and after moving to the sun (was a little chilly in the shade) the boys cooked away!

I think we found a new possible tradition? Well when the Mississippi weather holds out that is!

Hope you had a blessed day!

Diary of a Grandma

It has been a while....quite a while but that doesn't mean life has stopped...

It is time to bring some new perspective to this 'blog' thing....question is can I keep it up?  SURE I can!

With 2012 fast approaching it is time to gear up and bring more than just scrapbooking/stamping to this is time to keep up with family, with life, with weight loss journey, with GRAND CHILDREN!  Yes...we have even added a new member to our family!  I am now the grandma to Bailie (age 13) and Ian who was born 12/24/11.

How about a few little is my sweet grand daughter:
At 13 she is going on 21, she is beautiful!

And here he is....Ian William, born 12/24/11 weighing in at 9lbs 4 oz and almost 21 inches long...

Not only is he here but I had the honor to be IN THE ROOM with mom and dad as he came into this world.  That alone was no small feat. Mom's labor wasn't the easiest, and believe it or not, even at 9lbs plus he was 3 weeks and 1 day early!  He currently is in the NICU but has already come far and hopefully will be home with mom and dad SOON!  Here are a few more pics of his little journey so far:
                                          Day 1 and 2, December 25, 26

                                          December 27
                                         Mom with Ian December 27

AND today he came off the heating blanket and now just to work his way off the oxygen!

My thoughts through all this are is worth it!  I am anxiously awaiting the day to hold him and coo properly over and with the sweet little one.  Hopefully you will soon see those pictures here, until then....just know that I LOVE being GRANDMA!
